The result is an enclosed passage — the road disappears into it and the light drops to something close to interior. Fog is the variable that makes this location work. Clear days produce hard directional light through gaps in the canopy — dramatic but visually busy. Fog diffuses everything. The light goes flat and even, the trunks lose their harsh shadows, and the layers of the canopy — the receding arches — separate from each other in tone rather than contrast.
